This is a black oil pick-out painting I did of Jean-Michel Basquiat from a photo. He has long dreadlocks, two ears, and he slept with Andy Warhol.

None of which you can see in this picture:matteo:

Now by pick-out, do you mean the wipe away technique? Either way this painting is fabulous.
Yeah, there are a few ways of doing it.

I painted it as black as can be and used either paint thinner with a rag, or a dryer brush. I like to put my palette knife, or the end of a brush in the rag to pick-out.

Thanks for the comment:ahoy:

Oh nice. I do a similar style for my under paintings sometimes. I use linseed oil as a base, and then I go in with burnt umber and coat it. I wipe it away with a rag and such :)
My thinner smells funny. I need some of that fancy non-scented stuff.

The class I'm taking now, we used burnt umber for the first underpainting, and burnt sienna for the second underpainting. I've never used it before, but I really like how it looks on the canvas :ahoy:

You can get a pretty good effect with a kneaded eraser too.

There's no problem a few frag grenades can't fix.
